Do you have a damaged tooth—or two? Or is a tooth missing? We use two methods to repair or replace teeth: dental crowns and dental bridges.
We offer metal-free crowns and bridges for two reasons. First, without metal, your tooth restoration will look natural, blending in with your natural tooth color.
Second, we can quickly create your metal-free crown or bridge in the office while you’re still in the dental chair. Our CEREC machine lets us place crowns in a single visit. This saves our patients time and lets you avoid temporary replacement crowns—so convenient!
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a cap for your tooth, covering the top, or chewing surface, and the sides. A new crown should both look great and be functional.
We use crowns for a variety of goals, including:
- Strengthening a Tooth: After you’ve had a serious cavity or tooth decay, your tooth structure may need reinforcement for the long term.
- Replacing an Old Filling: If an old filling has worn out, we can upgrade your tooth with a crown to protect it from infection or damage.
- Repair: A crown reinforces a tooth after it has been chipped, cracked, or damaged in another way.
- Completing Another Service: After procedures such as a cavity treatment or root canal, a crown will protect your tooth and keep it healthy.
- Cosmetics: We can make a misshapen, damaged, or discolored tooth look great, giving it a new shape and color.
- Tooth Restoration: If you’ve lost a tooth, we could replace it with a tooth crown attached to a dental implant.
CEREC Crowns
At Robison Family Dental, we use the CEREC system to create your crowns at our office. In about an hour, we’ll have your customized crown ready and we’ll immediately place it on your tooth. You won’t have to wait for a different appointment.
Plus, CEREC uses high-quality ceramic to create crowns and bridges that closely match the look of your other teeth.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
We offer dental bridges as a way to replace one or more teeth. They’re closely related to dental crowns.
If you need just one new tooth, for example, we can create a bridge that has these parts:
- Your replacement tooth crown in the middle.
- Tooth crowns on each end of the bridge, bonded to existing teeth.
In other words, the bridge is anchored to teeth on both sides of the empty space, and the bridge holds a new tooth in the space.
If you have multiple missing teeth, we can craft a bridge that holds two or three new crowns in it. The bridge will hold these new teeth in place just over your gums.
Just like our metal-free crowns, we create customized bridges in the office using the CEREC system. Within about an hour, your bridge will be ready, and you won’t need multiple appointments or a temporary appliance.
The Advantages of a Dental Bridge
We customize each bridge with a color and shape that will fit beautifully into the rest of your smile. Plus, a bridge can:
- Give You Confidence: You won’t be self-conscious about a bridge that blends perfectly with the rest of your smile. Other people probably won’t even notice it’s there.
- Improve Your Chewing Ability: Since a bridge is anchored to your other teeth, you’ll be able to chew your favorite foods naturally again.
- Stabilize Your Other Teeth: Teeth tend to migrate toward and fill an empty socket, so a bridge helps hold your teeth in place.
- Protect Your Gums: The new crown will cover the empty tooth socket, helping prevent infection.
If you’re struggling with an empty socket—or several missing teeth—you can repair your beautiful smile with a dental bridge. Get your confidence in your smile back and protect the health of your other teeth and gums.
