Bonding is an exciting process that can make your teeth look amazing. It’s perfect for getting your smile ready for social media pics, a special occasion, a job interview, and feeling great about your teeth every day.
In bonding, your dentist will strategically place on your teeth a material similar in color and feel to your natural enamel. In only one visit, we’ll make your smile look almost brand-new.
How Do You Want to Improve Your Teeth?
What specific ways can we upgrade your smile? Our first priority when you visit Robison Family Dental is listening to you. Your goals and frustrations guide us toward the right services for you.
Some patients care about closing a tooth gap, for example, while others are not bothered by a gap. Dr. Robison loves listening, so feel free to tell us what your ideal smile would look like.
What can bonding do? In just one visit, we can use bonding for:
- Repairs: Chips and cracks are some of the obvious flaws that we can quickly correct with bonding. If a chunk has fallen off of a tooth, for example, our dentist will shape bonding resin to replace it and make your tooth look flawless.
- Small Cavities: When cavities have only just started, we can fill them in like they were never there, following the natural contours of your tooth. This can protect the health and integrity of your tooth in the long term.
- Stains: Certain foods and drinks, aging, accidents, and other causes can leave stains on teeth. Using bonding material, our dentist can create a quick layer to make a new, great-looking front for your tooth.
- Gaps: If you want a gap between teeth to disappear, we can bond a little extra material to the teeth on either side. By making your teeth appear just slightly wider, the gap will vanish.
- Tooth Reshaping: If you dislike the shape of a tooth, let us know. We can resculpt it with new material—even reshaping several teeth in a row if needed. Sometimes teeth don’t grow to full size, and bonding is a great way to help them fit in with your smile!
Dream big about the smile you really want and tell us your goals. Dr. Robison is experienced with cosmetic bonding and can also combine it with other services, such as dental crowns.
The Bonding Appointment
What happens during a bonding appointment? First, our patients say they like that it doesn’t take very long. Often, we only need to place a small amount of material on each tooth. We respect your time, and we’ll get you back out on the road quickly—often within 30–60 minutes.
Here are the general steps:
- Consultation: Dr. Robison will answer any questions you have and make sure he’s clear on the goals you have for your teeth—even if you’ve discussed it before.
- Tooth Prep: We clean your teeth and roughen the surface of the ones we’ll work on. This ensures the resin forms a strong bond with each tooth.
- Color Matching: We select the color of bonding material that will blend in with your smile.
- Application: The dentist applies the material to each tooth.
- Shaping: The dentist shapes and smooths the material to make the tooth look just right.
- Hardening: We use a light emitter to quickly harden the material.
- Polishing: We smooth the material so each treated tooth blends in with your whole smile.
This is usually a painless procedure. Most patients don’t need anesthesia. But please tell us beforehand if you have any concerns, such as dental sensitivity or anxiety.
